Solangi (Sindhi: سولنكي) is the name of a Sindhi Muslim Rajput tribe found in Sindh and southern Punjab, NWFP Pakistan and Afghanistan also.
History
According to traditions, the tribe is a branch of the Solanki ( Chalukya) Rajput tribe.
At the time of Mehmood Ghaznavi's attack on sub-continent the state of Gujrat was held under a Rajput emperor named Bheem Singh Solanki.
Solangi are among the earliest tribes of Sindh Hind (i.e. Indus Valley Civilization and neighbouring civilizations). They have also identified with the Mallah of the Punjab as both have in common, a sub-section called Manjari. The solangi Jats of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rahim Yar Khan also claim connection with the Solangi tribe. Like other old Sindhi tribes, they are known under the common nomenclature of Sammat. Solangis live in Sindh from Indus Valley Civilization 3300–1700 BCE. They inhabited Sindh when the irrigation system was under development and canals were under construction.
